Medical Bills Tips to Stay on Top:

By: Kelly Kennedy

Managing Medical Debt might be stressful however follow this tips below so you stay on top of them.

Whoever you are playing the bill to, be polite, prompt and courteous.  If you think you are going to be late, or if something is wrong on the bill, simply handle the situation in an organized manor by speaking with someone that can help you sort your problem out.

Stay honest.  If you overspent somewhere else, have lost your job, or something else has interfered with you being able to pay your bill on time, let your debtor know ahead of time so they know its something you can not comply with.  They may be able to help you out rather than you avoiding them and being late and facing consequences later on.

Stay motivated.  Paying bills is not fun but it must be done, so stick with it and get it paid off sooner rather than later.  Once its paid off, its one less bill to worry about.

Keep in touch.  If you keep in contact with your provider or collection agency throughout making your payments they will know you are making a good effort to pay your bills.  So if there comes a time when you cannot afford to pay the full amount, they may understand better, by knowing you more than just your name.

Make sure you understand your bill completely.  Go over your bill with your provider billing department or the person in charge of bill collection.  Let them know of your situation, what current coverage you have.

Coordinate your benefits.  For instance, if you have Medicaid/Husky A and private insurance, state regulations allow your providers to directly bill your insurance company.  Then, the provider will bill Medicaid/Husky A for any balance left after insurance has paid.

Although medical bills can be overwhelming and burdensome, maintain them as you would with any other bill and they’ll be paid off in no time, having one less bill to worry about.

Quick Tips

Pay a little more than the minimum payment required each month and you'll be surprised at how fast that credit card balance decreases.

Call the credit card companies and cancel all of your credit cards except for the one that gives you the lowest interest rate. Don't use that credit card unless absolutely necessary.
